Audacity: Recording through the sound card

These are the steps for Windows 10 you will probably need to take to record through the soundcard which is called loopback recording.

  • Set the recording device to Windows WASPI
  • Under Transport->Transport Options turn off the Software Playthrough (this gets rid issues with the recording sounding like it's got a robotic tone)

If you receive error Error -9997 Invalid sample rate (not what it seems) then you will need to go into your Windows device your audio devices and make sure the sample rate and bitness matches that of Audacity (e.g. 16-bit 44100 Hz). Windows 10 has buried this dialog, it is now under Device properties->Additional device properties.
